We Walked Through the House Yesterday!

Matthew and our builder Eric Pelletier - the Miracle Worker.

The shingles are on the roof, and the front porch is started. The first window went in, you can see it there in white. All the rest of the windows and the sliding door on the left side of the house were done after we left. The porch will be covered and shingled today.

Upstairs! The corner ahead will be a bedroom, either Noah's or a guest room.

The view from the other end of the house upstairs, a third bedroom in the back of the house.

Downstairs - straight ahead will be the living room.

A peek in the basement window. The floor will be poured on Friday. Next week the chimney goes in.

It's a beauty. A few more windows have gone in, in the dining room, just while we're walking around.

Well's done! Septic too.

The concrete pad for the attached garage was poured yesterday morning, and today they'll frame it up.
It's so exciting to see the changes coming so fast now. The house should be tight by the end of next week. He hopes to have us in by early February!

Merry Christmas - the Roof Is On!

Matthew took a drive to the house yesterday morning, after the blizzard that dropped over a foot of snow in these parts. Thankfully, the roof that went on late last week was still there!

It sure does look like a house now! This is the front - there will be a little covered porch over the door and two windows to the right of it. The garage will soon attach off the right side door.

On the first floor there will be our dining room on the left, and our living room on the right. The second story on the left will be a bedroom for guests or one of the kids, and Matthew and my bedroom on the right.

Lots of snow to plow...

The Second Story is Framed Up and Here Come the Walls!

We drove up to the new house yesterday afternoon. On Monday of this week the second story was framed up, and yesterday they put the plywood up. The green coating is the wind wrap, built right in nowadays.

Noah feels peaceful around all the machines.

You probably can't make out the small toy excavator Noah has clutched in his hand.

It was cold but beautiful out. I think the floor trusses are really interesting. More new building technology.

I love thinking about the windows and sunlight we'll have in this house. Our cat and our plants will be so happy! And, oh yeah, we'll kind of like it too.

"I'm c-c-cold Mama!" Time to go.
The view from the road is a good one.

Noah says he wants to paint his new room blue
...or white...or purple...or brown!

Catching Up

Creating this blog is the perfect project for a snow day. We have purchased 7+ beautiful acres in Monroe, Maine, and will have a new home! Our wonderful builder is Eric Pelletier of Belgrade, and though he's frustrated by the recent weather, things are moving along. Our purpose here is mostly to share images, so there will be lots of pictures and fewer words telling this story...

We visited the land often before we owned it.

November 19th at 4:00 p.m. we closed on our land and construction loan, after several stops and starts. We were thoroughly exhausted with the process of looking for homes and selling our home, then changing our course and deciding to buy land and build, and moving from our house to a rental in Belfast.

The back yard.

The house site.

November 20th, the day after closing,

the driveway goes in!

And then came the cellar hole, the foundation, the well and septic, and framing up the first floor.

That brings us to up to 24 hours ago, when a "wintry mix"
fell from the sky.
Stay tuned for more!
